Do You Need A Submersible Well Pump?
If you have a deep well on your property to supply you with water, you probably have a submersible well pump in order to pump this water into your home. There are other types of pumps used for this purpose, but with deeper wells this type of pump is the most common, with about sixty percent of homes with wells using submersible pumps. These pumps tend to work best in this type of situation. These pumps are more reliable than jet pumps, as well as more efficient, and do not require service often. However, in order to repair or replace them it is necessary to pull them (and the pipe connected to them) from the well, which is a job that is best done by professionals. The submersible well pump is installed through a pipe, and sits beneath the water in your well. When water is needed, the pump pushes the water up from the bottom of the well rather that pulling it up like with some other types of pumps. This water is stored in a storage tank until it is needed. As the level of water in the storage tank gets low, the pump will be activated to fill the tank up again. This is not a pump with a continuous operation, it doesn't need to start each time you use water, only when the water level in the storage tank gets low so that the tank needs to be filled up again. There are a number of different options when it comes to buying a submersible well pump. Home Depot sells a few different models manufactured by Flotec, including 1/2 HP, 3/4 HP, and 1 HP options. However, there are also other types available, including 1/3 HP pumps and 2 HP pumps, and other manufacturers such as Gould, Simer, and Little Giant. Pumps also come in different sizes, such as 2 inch or 3 inch. The exact pump you choose will depend on the size of your well and the amount of water that you use, so you should make sure to do the proper calculations so that you get the right type of submersible well pump for your needs. You don't want a pump that is too slow to keep up with your water demands. A professional at one of the stores that sells these types of pumps should be able to help you if you are not sure which type to get.
